Privacy Policy

Last updated: 23 October 2026

This explains what personal data SponBid collects, why, and what your rights are.

1. What we collect

When you create an account: your name, email address, phone number, password (stored as an irreversible hash, never in plain text), and account type (club, individual, or business). Clubs additionally provide a sport, town/city, and optionally a bio, profile picture, and header image. If you buy a media pack, you may add further photos, video, PDFs, links, and a bio.

When you use the Platform: the listings you create, the bids you place (including a reason if you withdraw one), reviews you write, and news posts you publish.

Automatically: we use your IP address, on a one-off basis per session, to guess whether to show prices in GBP or USD — this is not stored beyond your session and is not linked back to your account.

2. Why we collect it

  • To run your account and let you use the Platform (bidding, listing, messaging via contact details, etc.)
  • To process payments (via Stripe) and pay clubs out correctly
  • To send you account emails — password resets, deletion confirmations, and payment notifications (via Mailjet)
  • To show reasonable currency defaults based on your general location

3. Who we share it with

We don't sell your data. We share what's necessary with:

  • Stripe — to process payments. Stripe handles your card details directly; we never see or store them.
  • Mailjet — to send transactional emails (password resets, deletion confirmations, payment notifications).
  • A free IP-geolocation service — to determine your approximate country for currency display, from your IP address only.
  • Other users, in specific circumstances — your phone and email become visible to a club (or winning bidder) only once you've completed a paid sponsorship together. Your name, listings, bids, and reviews are visible publicly as part of how the Platform works.

4. Cookies and local storage

We use a session cookie to keep you logged in and to remember your detected currency for your visit. We use your browser's local storage (not a cookie) to remember your light/dark theme preference. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

5. How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, your listings, bids, reviews, follows, news posts, and media pack content are permanently deleted along with it.

6. Your rights

You can review and update most of your own information from your profile and account settings at any time. You can permanently delete your account (and the data tied to it) from your profile edit page, provided you have no live auctions or active bids outstanding. For anything else — including a request to access, correct, or delete data you can't manage yourself — contact us.
